Redistricting: 2021's Political Blockbuster

Colorado's congressional redistricting and legislative reapportionment process comes around once every 10 years, which makes it low on the radar of most people. The primary purpose of balancing populations in each district to create fairness in the weight of each vote. City and neighborhood populations grow and different rates and the political districts that overlay these geographic areas will then contain populations out of balance with neighboring political districts. We want, and the Constitution requires, districts with equal population to ensure each vote in a political district carries the same weight, regardless of where the voters live.

The secondary purpose of redistricting and reapportionment is to recognize the types of people and interests in a district and determine which communities may fit best in a political district. This secondary purpose is a blockbuster show.  This piece in the Colorado Sun outlines a preview of this summer's best political coming attraction...get out the popcorn.
